Indian currency symbol design contest!
Ministry of Finance, India has recently started a competition for all general public to design the Indian currency symbol.
Most of the countries have there own currency symbol like $ (US Dollar), £ (Great Britain pound), € (Euro), ¥ (Japanese Yen), etc. But there is no official or special symbol for our Indian currency yet. Generally we use Rs. to represent the Indian rupees.
'Ethos of India'
The symbol should represent the historical and cultural ethos of India. The entries can be in any of the Indian languages. They can even be in English which is also an accepted language of use by the government.
Each entry has to be accompanied by a fee of 500 rupees ($10) and a participant can send a maximum of two entries.
The rules also say that the "symbol should be applicable to the standard [computer] keyboard".
Officials say the winning entry will be chosen by a seven-member jury of experts drawn from various art institutes, the government and India's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India.
Five shortlisted entries for the final selection will be awarded a prize of 25,000 rupees ($500) and the winner will take 250,000 rupees ($5,000).
The final selected symbol will become the property of the government and the designer will have no rights over it any more,

Interested in designing your own design? Okay here are few things to consider before you start.
Keep it Simple You don’t have to be an artist or a designer, all you need is an idea and a way to put it into a line drawing, start your design with pencil and paper, it’s very important that the symbol should be easy and fast to write, try not to complicate with adding too many elements to it, keep the symbol smooth with curve and try to avoid sharp edges, so it’s easy and fast to write.
Unique! It’s almost impossible to design a new symbol that doesn’t exist anywhere, but for a bright side you got a great choice of character to play with, there are about 18 official Indian languages from which you can pick a character and make sure that your design don’t resemble with any other currency symbols.
Think realistic You can be as creative as you want, but be aware of where your symbol will be used, you may have to see how your symbol looks when used in sentence of words or with a bunch of numbers, keep in mind of how the font designers will interpret your symbol in their font designs.
Here is a tool to start your design.
